Peter with the RSO Frankfurt in 2002
Peter's CV

Peter Steidle was born of German parents in Bucharest, Rumania, in 1939. He came to Germany in 1943 with his mother, after his parents were divorced. After staying with relatives in Berlin and Mecklenburg they fled to Schleswig-Holstein at the end of the war and arrived later in Hameln (this is the town with its legendary „The Piper of Hamelin“) in 1945. Peter spent most of his school life as a boarder, and started to teach himself the horn in 1952.

From August 1956 till 1963 he studied the horn in the Nordwestdeutschen Musikakademie Detmold under Gustav Neudecker. After finishing his studies, he was engaged by the Landesbühne Schleswig-Holstein, the Operettenhaus Hamburg and the Städtebundtheater Hof (Hofer Symphoniker). In December 1967 he joined the respected Radio-Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt (RSO Frankfurt) as Third/First Horn, and in the 1980s moved on to the low horn.

Peter Steidle has taught many pupils. Some of the more successful are Peter Bromig, (Solohornist in the SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg), Clara-Christine Hohorst (Solohornistin in the Essener Philharmonikern), Gabriele Guder (Hornistin in the Staatstheater Stuttgart), Gerda Wind-Sperlich und Thomas Sonnen (both alongside Peter in the RSO (Radio-Symphony-Orchestra Frankfurt), Frank Stephan (Hornist in the Radio-Symphony-Orchestra Berlin), Markus Bruggaier (Hornist in the Staatskapelle Berlin), Michael Nassauer (Hornist in the Philharmonic Orchestra Süedwestfalen), Ralf Kluge (Hornist in the Wuerttembergischen-Philharmonie Reutlingen), Jens Hentschel (Hornist in the Staatstheater Wiesbaden). The soloists Peter Closs in Kassel and Urla Karl in Basel are also his pupils.

Peter´s favorite pupil, however, is his son Gregor Steidle, who is also featured in this website. Gregor (standing left on the photo - click to enlarge) is an eminent horn player who could have found a place in one of the best orchestras (he was engaged as a substitute by the RSO Frankfurt), but he preferred to become a lawyer. The title of his Ph.D. was "Artistic Freedom and Self - Determination in the Orchestra", published by NOMOS Verlagsgesellschaft Baden-Baden.
Today he is a judge in the Labor Court in Kiel.

In 1965 Peter translated Philip Farkas famous book "The Art of Brass Playing" into German. (Die Kunst der Blechbläser, Verlag Hans Pizka).

In 1981, along with other like - minded friends, Peter Steidle founded the "Frankfurter Bläser-Serenade", a wind chamber - music ensemble, which has been accorded innumerable plaudits in numerous concerts. Peter has written many arrangements especially for this ensemble.

In addition to all these activities, Peter is extremely interested in the production of brass instruments. He has developed many new horn models with the co - operation of Gebrüder Alexander in Mainz (www.musik-alexander.de/). Constructions 200 and 403S are serial models.

Peter is the proud owner of the Collection Vuillermoz.
